Come and Explore Nature Through My Eyes

What is She Is Somewhere?

I envision She Is Somewhere as a space where I can connect with others through my recollections of past trips and stories. The universe knows I have been through my fair share of blunders, mistakes, and misadventures; by retelling these stories, I hope to foster respect for the Great Outdoors and emphasize preparedness and personal responsibility. In addition, I wish to share my trail tips and tricks for those seeking to connect with nature or to sharpen their backpacking edge. Lastly, join here bi-weekly for a Backpacker’s Book Club where I discuss the books I read during my adventures. The trail makes for a lovely place to reflect and ponder.

Above all else, I want to create a unique haven on the internet to showcase my quirky creativity whilst offering practical advice and guides. An outlet to share my blunders with a backpack and personal reflections. A place for essential tips & tricks and messages on coping with fear. I want to inspire the solo traveler and the craving for wanderlust. To sow seeds of love and appreciation for nature and all of her creations. And to inspire my audience toward land stewardship and Leave No Trace Principles. Although I have hopes for where I would like to see this backpacking blog go, I grant it a life of its own and remain open to seeing how it grows.

Who is She?

I never know how to answer the “Who am I?” question. Do I reduce myself to my name? My occupation? Should I talk about my family and my upbringing? For now, I will begin by stating the following:

A woman backpacker standing on a rocky riverbank with a dog, surrounded by trees and a clear blue sky.
The gal behind the blog, and her dog.

I grew up with the perception that to be alone was a sign of weakness, of undesirability. As a result, I held myself back for fear of social disapproval and unwanted encounters. Somewhere along the way, the convictions of others no longer held me captive, and fear ceased holding me by the reins. Inspired by the world and given confidence by a protective dog, my solo, or not-so-solo, travels began. It was not long before my car became a vessel to carry my adventurous spirit. Nature was calling.

Through these adventures, I have cultivated an immense kinship with Mother Nature. I have experienced her ruthless indifference to my existence, yet I continue to find moments of tenderness in her presence. Full transparency, I have a tendency to be fickle — fluttering from one interest to the next. But what has remained steadfast throughout is my pull toward the wilderness. A motif in the composition of my life. It is difficult to speak about who I am without mentioning my affinity for the natural world. With that being said, I am sure who I am, beyond the backpack and dirty fingernails, will reveal itself in time. May the answer weave itself deeper as the project progresses.
